Tips for Designing the Perfect Toddler's Room
Making the transition from a nursery to a toddler’s bedroom requires a bit of planning and consideration. While you can still utilize much of your nursery furniture, items such as the baby crib will have to be replaced. At the same time, your little one may no longer appreciate the decidedly “babyish” wallpaper or border that was so perfect for a newborn. When you make the decision to makeover your toddler’s room, follow these tips for a smooth transition:
- Decide how big of a project you’re willing to take on. If redoing the walls simply isn’t an option at this time, ask yourself how you can make the current design work with your new design. If you do have the time and the means to repaint, then go for it. Determine your budget, the amount of time you have, and what are realistic goals given what you have to work with.
- Ask your little one for input. This is, after all, your child’s space, so he or she should certainly have some say on the way the final design looks. Explain that it is ultimately your decision on what to do, but that you would like to work in as many elements that your child would enjoy as is reasonable. If your child is really into turtles, for example, it wouldn’t be difficult to replace your idea for pirate borders with turtle borders.
- Assess your nursery furniture and needs. You probably won’t have to do a whole lot of restructuring when it comes to furniture, but see what you need. Find an excellent toddler bed to replace the baby crib, and then, see what’s left. You may want to add a toy box, relocate a glider, or add another chest of drawers.
